Baby and me yoga!

While I was pregnant I started taking prenatal yoga… I had never taken yoga before but thought it might be the best time to try it out and surprise, surprise I loved it! It truly helped me during my labor and I was excited to take Avery to the baby and me yoga class when he was old enough… Then came the move and things got shaken up. My husband being the amazing guy he is found a baby and me yoga class close to our new apartment for us to try out. Turns out Avery loves going even more than I do! So now it’s a twice a week thing- it’s amazing meeting other Moms and watching Avery interact with the other babies!!

A good day.

We have already taken Avery to the pool a handful of times but it never stops being fun so we just keep going. We only take him in for maybe 15 minutes every time but he seems to enjoy it more and more and this last time he actually started splashing the water. It was a pretty exciting Sunday! Other than that he likes to sit and watch the palm fronds blow in the wind. And as for me I just enjoy my time outside. Once you have a baby you sometimes forget to take some time for yourself and every once in a while you have a moment of “ahh” this is amazing!

4 months!

Avery is officially 4 month old! It seems like the days are flying by but going so slow at the same time… I love how his little personality is developing everyday. He loves to laugh, play pick-a-boo, blow spit bubbles, and smile at himself in the mirror. He has also started rolling over front to back and back to front which means diaper changes are more challenging than ever and he has a tooth that has already broken through. Teething hasn’t been to bad but he certainly has his days/moments when it seems like it bothers him but for the most part he is one happy boy!

He just had his 4 month checkup and shots and his growth is right on point which is always reassuring as a new Mom. We also just adjusted his Stokki crib from the bassinet size to the full crib size witch was bitter sweet but exciting. Since he no longer is swaddled during sleep he tends to sleep on his side which I feel is kind of unusual for a baby but maybe not… I was feeling nervous about his sleep positions but the doctor said it’s fine. If there is one thing I have learned in these 4 months it’s that every baby is different and sometimes you just have to let your little one do what works for them… even if other Mom are there to judge you.

baby boy.

The morning of January 30th I woke up to what I thought was just a braxton hicks contraction… I figured I’d just get up and take a shower to get the day started. While I was showering I noticed the cramp type pains kept coming. After I finished getting ready I woke my husband up and told him “I think I’m in early labor” so, we used our handy labor app to start timing the contractions. By about 8:30 am we realized I was in active labor… I had either slept through or skipped early labor. Things progressed and 14 hours later I had a healthy baby boy in my arms. Labor was undoubtably one of the toughest things I have ever done. There were certainly times I thought “I can’t do this” but somehow you pull your last bit of strength from your toes to push. Once that baby is on your chest you realize you areĀ way stronger than you ever thought and you did something amazing! It’s one of the most exhilarating experiences ever. Baby boy had some serious gas issues and my milk did not get the memo about coming in on time but once we got that cleared up things were just like I imagined. Sleepless nights, amazing naps, less showers than I would like, and SO. MANY. DIAPER. CHANGES!

Say hello to Avery. Born January 30th at 11:09 pm, weighing 8.5 pounds and 21.5 inches long.

Avery pretty much came out alert and curious. Even though he is only 3 months old, he seems to think he can do everything… hold his head by himself, try to hold his own bottle, and no matter how many times I try to do tummy time with him he promptly rolls over. I feel like I am seeing the world for the first time with him. He has brought us so much happiness I can’t believe we lived without him. It is honestly the best thing in the world doing everything with a baby. Don’t get me wrong… we have had our challenging days (those first 5 were like no other) and sometimes you are just counting down the hours until Dad gets off work so you can have some time to fold the laundry without any interruptions but I wouldn’t change it for anything! I was totally meant to be his Mom.

My first Mother’s Day!

So yesterday was my first Mother’s day. To be honest I still don’t feel like a “Mom”. Every time the doctor or anyone for that matter refers to me as Mom or Momma I kind of have to stop and think… then I realize they are referring to me and after the awkward pause that it took me to process the fact that the doctor saying “How’s Momma doing today?” is directed toward me passes I finally respond. Anyway, on to Mother’s day. I got to sleep in just a little bit and woke up to flowers and a picture frame then we went to breakfast where I indulged in a waffle and from there it was off to the Descanso Gardens. All in all it was a perfect first Mother’s day. I feel so lucky I get to be a Mom. It is honestly one of the most fun things ever and I love doing everything with my boys so yesterday was pretty amazing! Hope all you Moms had a great day too!!
