cold weather.

{scarf: jcrew, gloves: gift, bag: italy}

The temperatures have been getting cooler and cooler so extra layers have been added and the scarves, hats, and gloves have all been pulled out and put on show. I thought I would go ahead and share a few things that have been on heavy rotation. I have found it increasingly difficult to do any kind of outfit photos lately due to the weather and the fact that my husband/photographer has been working crazy hours. Please forgive me while I get back on track with those things. Anyway, since moving to Vancouver I have learned to never leave the house without an umbrella or a pair of gloves in the winter. This year has been a little less intense for the simple fact that I knew what was coming and was thoroughly prepared! Plus, my collection of scarves has almost doubled!!

animal print.

{blazer:urban outfitters, shirt, scarf, & bag: jcrew, jeans & shoes: target}

To be honest, I don’t own a lot of animal print. I have just started a small collection of accessories and I found that a bag, shoes, and a scarf are really all I need. Even though I’ve been attracted to full animal print pieces I could never really commit… I do love the look of animal print (especially for fall) and it adds a little fun to my less interesting outfits so you may be seeing this scarf more than you would like. At least until I add something new to my collection!

leaves.

Fall is in full swing and I am totally inspired by the leaves. I have even been wearing a lot of brown, red, and orange… I didn’t notice until my husband pointed out the fact that I had worn orange three days in a row. My thinking is- if you like it, wear it! So that’s what I have been doing. Plus, who doesn’t love playing in leaves- it’s so quintessentially fall!

around autumn.

{jacket:forever21, shirt: h&m, jeans: target, shoes: old navy, bag: dooney & bourke}

I find that my typical weekend outfits have been some version of this the past few weeks. Around Autumn I always go back to simple looks, and classic colors. It’s almost like my fashion cleanse- I only wear things that are uncomplicated and easy to layer.

paint brush.

{dress: forever21, sweater: nordstrom, boots:tj maxx, bag: jcrew}

Being out and about all day calls for comfortable and functional. This outfit served me well for an afternoon of errands and a dinner date that evening. I have to admit I haven’t been putting much thought into my outfits lately and it probably shows. However, I sometimes think those everyday, truly functional looks are more inspiring than those “special” ones. I have always loved the colors in this dress and the paint brush kind of pattern makes it twice as interesting. Plus it’s one of the most comfortable dresses I own.

fall flats.

I am slowly trading in my sandals for flats (and boots). Since moving to Vancouver, flats have become my shoe of choice. Trekking around this city calls for comfort and I have a few favorites that keep my feet happy and my outfits cute. I’m actually surprised I don’t have more! They make life so much easier when running errands and shopping. After deciding to do this post I realized I need a good pair of party flats… maybe something sparkly or patent? I’d love to know what your fall shoe of choice is.

hammock in the park.

{husband hanging in the hammock}

After maybe a handful of visits to the Hang Out store on Granville Island my husband finally bought one of their small hammocks. I have to admit I was a little skeptical at first but after a trip into Stanley Park and finding a good tree to hang it in I have officially changed my mind. It was a great way to enjoy the last bit of warm weather. It made me feel like I was on vacation and the fact that I finally got to finish my September issues was just the cherry on top!

cool.

{shirt:target, skirt & boots: forever21, sweater:zara, bag:rebecca minkoff}

With a slight cill in the air I have added a few extra layers to my daily outfits. Sweaters, full skirts, and short boots are my go-to right now. This flouncy red circle skirt never lets me down- it doesn’t matter what season, or occasion. I pulled it out for Vancouver’s Fashion’s Night Out, which was so much fun! I am always reminded what a great find this skirt was every single time I wear it.

errands.

{shirt & scarf: forever21, jeans: target, shoes: zara, bag: j.crew, glasses: urban outfitters}

Vancouver weather tends to be a little finicky around this time of year {read: the temperature changes every hour} so I have been wearing simple basics most days. It makes it easy to throw on a scarf and blazer or just go with a light sweater and jeans. Truthfully, I’m kind of happy to simplify my daytime looks and add an additional layer.

game day.

{shirt: target, jeans & blazer: urban outfitters, shoes: michael korrs, bag: j.crew}

Since collage football season is upon us and I’m such an avid fan I figured I would share my favorite game day outfit. In the south, football season is serious business! Most girls wear their best team colored dresses and shoes topped off with their pearls of course- and that’s just fine by me but I have always been a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl when it comes to game day attire. I root for two teams, South Carolina (since I attended school there) and Florida (since that’s where my parents attended). One of my favorite things to wear is a vintage or vintage inspired t-shirt. I don’t know what it is but it just feels right wearing something a little old school. Other than that I try to keep things simple by adding a blazer and a great pair of shoes. I’d love to know what your game day go-to is!
